Leadership Area

The Leadership area encourages companies to take steps within their organization which establish visible leadership through regular and effective communication and engagement with front line supervision and other members of the onsite workforce.

Key elements of successful leadership within an organization are demonstrated commitment to safe practices, visible leadership through engagement and support of safety program, and establishing objectives and resources that drive an operational culture of risk mitigation for the prevention of serious incidents and fatalities.

Through OSA Participant Action 1: Participant Commitment to Participate in and Support the Onshore Safety AllianceAction-1, OSA participants make a visible commitment to safety and the active engagement of leaders at all levels to the development and continual improvement of an organization’s safety culture.  This action sets the direction, expectations, and acceptable behaviors of the workforce and influence all aspects of the organization’s culture.

Purpose

The purpose is to achieve visible leadership through regular and effective communication and engagement with front line supervision and other members of the onsite workforce.

Demonstrated Commitment

  • Establish a Policy/Vision that states the expectations, principles of operation, and desired results
  • Drive a culture where workers are encouraged to take action when unsafe acts, conditions, or events are observed without negative consequences
  • Ensure resources are provided to implement approved corrective/preventative actions

 

Visible Leadership

  • Participate in onboarding/orientation activities
  • Establish plans for field engagement, with expected frequency, recommended type of engagement, and site presence by leadership
  • Support implementation of safety programs through engagements
 

Objectives & Resources

  • Set goals and objectives to continuously improve performance
  • Drive an operational culture of risk mitigation for the prevention of serious incidents and fatalities
